My (exceptionally swift) brush with fame...
At the start of December I was at a food festival where the headlining was The Kooks, when I mentioned to a friend there was a One Night Only performance at the end of October that I really wanted to go to. I forgot about it until this friend reminded me about it, and we organised the night out in pretty much two weeks. Luckily the tickets were only £10 and we were able to go by train to Birmingham in about 35 mins. So on Halloween I went directly from school to the train station, with a map of the town centre and directions to the O2 Academy that id printed out over the internet the night before. After possibly the greasiest pizza in an empty diner with Indian dub-step in the background we headed for the venue. We were close to the start of a relatively short queue, so we thought we were in the wrong one, so we changed queues (as there was another one). We queued for over an hour until we were told we were meant to be in the original queue. Disgruntled, as we could have been in the front row had we not moved, we made our way to the door, where they was a man in front of us. His height, messy hair and killer dress code made me joke to my friend that it could be George Craig (lead singer of One Night Only), at which point the guy turned around. Much to my astonishment it was him, as i followed him to bouncer. Then much to my amusement the bouncer asked him for his ticket, at which point he had to explain he was in the headlining act, a fact which I confirmed by choking out 'That's George Craig' to the bouncer. So who knew my bad luck when choosing queues could lead to one of the best minutes of my life! The support acts were amazing, with The Van Doos kicking off the show. However The Lonsdale Boys were slightly more professional when it came to stage presence. Still One Night Only stole the show, though the performance was in front of a relatively small crowd. After getting in late we were still able to make the third row easily.
